Sinbad Richardson-If I Ruled the World

on monday jcs and i put up the first piece for the secret commons gallery!

we left the house with sinbad's giant comic and a bowl of wheatpaste, a roll of packing tape, and some newspaper and walked up to the Mile End overpass to get started.

there was an impromptu show going on when we got there, which made us feel more comfortable getting down to the business of vandalizing public property with a bit of a distraction. it also felt sorta perfect to have a soundtrack for our project and to find other people using public space for their artmaking (and check the nice graffiti behind them).

We had trouble getting the comic to stick to the supports of the overpass. seems tape doesn't like concrete and it was too windy to get the wheat paste to stay, plus the comic is huge. we decided to put it on the ground, which i felt a bit bad about later. but we're learning by doing this. we made a frame for the piece out of rocks and wood beams we found nearby and used all the wheatpaste we had to adhere it to the ground.

here's where to find it: walk up st laurent just past bernard. the road goes under an overpass and there's a brick factory building on the left. the piece is under the overpass.

Go see this piece in person and let us know what you think in the comments on this post.

The rest of the first round of installations are going up this week and we'll be posting them here for you to find.

And we're rolling...

so after an entire winter of saying we'll get this started, the blog is up!

tomorrow marks the first day of putting up secret commons installations.

we'll put up photos, info, and directions for the pieces and then it's up to you to find them. if the weather's nice we'll also be biking from piece to piece with friends and gallery goers. so check back for info on all that. cheers!
